Separate the two balances
A program may distinguish points used for status from points that can be redeemed. Record each separately. A displayed points balance does not necessarily convert into money, and a status tier may have a different expiry date from a redeemable reward.
Check the qualification period
Find the start and end of the period used to assess a tier. Ask whether the tier is reviewed on a rolling basis or at fixed dates, and whether benefits continue after the qualification period ends. Keep a copy of the current membership rules.
Value the benefits you would actually use
Dining discounts, parking, room offers and host services serve different purposes. A benefit only has practical value when it fits an existing plan and its booking conditions can be met. Compare availability, blackout dates and any separate charge rather than adding advertised values together.
A VIP label is not a bonus promise
